Hi John, I haven't done it, but I know Burton supply a kit for converting the Type 9 box to hydraulic.

I'm going hydraulic, but with a Mazda RX8 gearbox.

Are we talking about a concentric slave cylinder?

regards, Dave

Sorry not sure what you mean, thinking of fitting a ford Escort engine and box but the clutch is cable operated and would like to fit a slave cyl to the box. I have read somewhere if you use a cable system you have to reinforce the bulk head to suit, plus just fitted a new clutch Master cyl

John,
Is the bellhousing you have removable from the gearbox? If so you might be able to swap it for a similar item from an earlier type (hydraulic).
The anglia or cortina might be worth looking at.

Regards, Dave

John,

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Alloy-Bellhousing-Lotus-Elan-Ford-Twin-Cam-Pre-Crossflow-Crossflow-2000E-box/324498347498?hash=item4b8d9bd5ea:g:AYIAAOSwnBRgN5kb

This is the shape you are looking for. note the mounting for the slave cylinder on the side opposite to the starter. This particular one is aluminium and will probably attract a Lotus "sales tax " but the same Anglia, Cortina Mk1 in cast iron should come quite cheaply.

Regards, Dave

John,

The simplest way to achieve what you are after is to go for a Ford 3 rail gearbox
from a 105E Anglia or a Bullet box as fitted to the Corsair 2000E with the remote removed.

I have one of these fitted to the lightweight and we have a phase 2 in with a 1700cc crossflow using the same gearbox.

Both these car have hydraulic clutches.

I have taken a couple of pictures which may help, they are of the 3rail clutch system on the crossflow powered car we are doing. Please ignore the cobwebs covid has slowed progress to a crawl.

Just to be clear the slave cylinder is a temporary one so that we can judge the clearance when we start to make the exhaust manifold, and the pushrod/actuator isn't fitted.
