Does anyone know, for the purposes of sprints and hill climbs, whether a Rochdale Olympic PI is categorised as:

Class A - Road going production cars (2)1400cc to 1800cc

Class B - Road going Kit and replicas (2)1400cc to 2000cc

We consider the Olympic as a component car, rather than a kit car, but I am guessing that the Blue Book would consider it a Road going Kit?

Road going Production cars must be made in numbers exceeding 1000 units per annum.

Specialist Production Cars must have a minimum of 20 cars per annum.

The Rochdale fits in the latter....Which means to compete you must have a basic Roll Bar fitted....unless it was built before 31 Dec 1961....which is the reason mine is not competing at the moment.

Just out of interest I am currently in the process of designing a roll cage for my lightweight Olympic JJH 20G which we intend to race (eventually) with HSCC or CSCC. We have spoken to several roll cage companies who have given us guidance on the certification of the cage which will be manufactured following the guidelines in the MSA blue book.

As with the rest of this car it isn't going to be easy as the fibreglass is so thin. The result is that we will have to have some serious spreader plates to stop it from simply punching itself through the shell. We also intend to fit the seat and seatbelts to the roll structure so that in the event of a serious accident / roll over the driver will be in a safety cage even if the rest of the car disappears.
