In 1986 I got the RAC to allow the Rochdale Olympic to run in the modified sports car class at Hill Climbs and Sprints, rather than any kit car class.....better class of person, don't ya know!!!!!!
I still have the press release. It was well used to persuade organisers to let me run in the modified sports car class rather than against Duttons and Vono Bedstead specials.
To get FIA approval, I think you have to prove that it raced in at least one international event....could be wrong on that though....anyone know? |

Keith Hamer who has raced/does race and has an ex-Lightweight Olympic racer can tell you all about FIA homologation. Where are you Keith? |

Keiths looked for Int race history and can't find it, not for the lightweight at any rate, I doubt it raced as std either, but building it to a period correct std might at least let me enter a few decent races as an invitee
so many of the cars out racing are so very far away from original specification it would never be competitive even if I built a Duffyesque sillouhette !
What I'd like to know is what hapopened to that original FiA application and why did it not follow through . . . . the car in that article is the same as mine pre autocross rebuild. |

Anyone know what's involved and the cost's of retrospective homologation?
Will anyone use it if obtained?
I think it will double or treble the value of our Olympics so it may be worth a shot.
Would anyone actually use the homologation for FIA events?
Regards

I think the line in the press "homologation has been applied for...." was put there to add a little gravitas to the Olympic in order to make appear a 'serious' sports car....and not your run of the mill kit car. |

There was always a story about an Olympic built for racing which was sent to Germany for an American serviceman to race. The colour of the car was supposed to be black and I understand the car was destroyed in a crash. Presumably it raced in international meetings? It might be an old wives tale but it's worth repeating. |

James, If that was true I am sure the Olympic would have appeared in the list, that Alex put the link up for, of all the homologated cars.
Being as the FIA are based in Paris I wonder if we could pursuade Alex to ring them and try to get to the bottom of the matter? Was an application ever made? If so why was it never completed?
Regards

Yes, it's very easy, (I practise FIA some times) :
FIA: "if it isn't in the list it doesn't exist !".
FIA: "you want a (poor) copy of homologation file, say us number and pay 90€..." few days after "sorry, this number isn't available but thank you for money".
"Where is it ? We don't know, fire in our archives", but impossible to homologate a car if they lost files... (exemple I know, BMW 2002tii in G2). |
