Hi Paul,
All parts on front & rear suspension on "DUFFY" are fabricated.
Regards
Tony

My copy of ROC116 arrived today and I have to say what an interesting magazine it is this time. Some colour pictures in and around the centre, an interesting article from John Walkington on his C-type (although there is a part which suggests that repairing badly crazed gelcoat is simply a matter of "cleaning it thoroughly, flat it down and spray with cellulose primer, flat and spray until a good surface results"). I'm certain there's much more to it than that.

An excellent article by Les Brown (Captain Les) describes his efforts to get the rear suspension on his PhII to actually work properly. The reasons for it not working was gross misalignment of the GRP 'pockets' which the steel boxes bolt up to.

When the great day arrives when I actually start to work on that part of the car, I plan (I'm good at planning having forteen or fifteen years of practise) to make a dummy rear axle complete with brackets (a timber pole would do, then attach this to the trailing arms before pumping it up and down like a bench pressing weightlifter. That would show if the bushes were binding somewhere because of misalignment. A good read though.

Alex

I know there is a translation problem with you although your understanding of the English language far excedes mine (of the French language). These items are 'useful', essential in fact. What Les's article went into great detail about was how important it was to get the ALIGNMENT of these brackets correct within the GRP recesses of the bodyshell. The idea is that the rear axle should be able to swing up and down without any mis-alignment binding the rubber bushes. With mis-alignment, the bushes tighten up and the rear suspension is all the poorer for it.

With your permission, I'll come over to Rheims on my bike to see you in the Spring and we can chat about Olympics "until the stars come home".

Yes good idea !

I think it will be important for me, and for you (to not ask stupid questions) to take time to translate your texts to understand most things as possible.

(I want to buy this parts Wink )

Alex the brackets from Les fit into the body of the car. Your car will have these brackets. They must fit true, to permit the arms to rise and fall correctly. In the magazine you can see how Les had to change them, because they were not bonded to the body accurately. They were bonded at an angle, not level to the ground.

Is that a piece of fencing wire doing duty as an exhaust hanger strap above the back axle?
Looks like an outback bush repair to me.
Merry Christmas to all

Hi Keith,

You will see when you receive your magazine ROC 116 that your car
ESU 816 is now a P11R.

May we all in the UK wish you, Neil and Gordon over the other side of
the world in the Sun Cool a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Kind regards
Tony and "DUFFY" and all ROC members.
