|
|
Just general info here are a few pictures of my engine bay.
For those of you who used the previous forum please bear with me
as some of the following was on there too.
A few years ago I aquired a car fitted with a supercharged 1500 Ford pre-crossflow and in a moment of madness I decided to fit this in my Olympic.
This involved removing nearly all of the passenger side inner wing, this done I did the trial fit of the power unit only to realise how stupid I had been, the tyre on half steering lock was fouling the supercharger.
I repaired this and at the same time enlarged the battery mounting area to accept 2x40DCOE's at a later date.
This is the finished repair
When I aquired the car the previous owner had cut the engine bay front bulkhed so he could slot the spare wheel in there just above the front subframe, this had seriously weakened the front end. I repaired this and at the same time improved the bonnet catch mounting.
contd. in next post

I removed the front subframe and beefed up all the joints between the inner wings and the rest of the shell
In the second picture below the remaining hole in the tunnel will be fixed when the exhaust is finalised (it was far too close to the tunnel before)
The two heater water connections are sealed by using 30mm stainless washers trapping rubber discs, simple, sound and vibration proof.
The hole on the lower LH. inner wing was done by the previous owner to gain access to the oil pump, don't know why, may repair or may make detachable cover, don't know yet.
Ayway there you go.
Regards
Dave

This is exactly the sort of thing we need to see, I look forward to the next instalment, especially if it shows the front subframe!

Alex, If you look carefully you will notice that the flat area where the battery fitted has been lowered also, a point easy to overlook but must be done for carb clearance. About 4cm. lower if I remember.

I have a question about 1500 Ford pre-crossflow, can we fit Exhaust Manifolds like that without problem :

Alex,
I believe zefarelly, on this forum, Throbnozzle Racing was looking at fitting an exhaust manifold like that some time ago- may be worth emailing him?

MGB 1800cc 45DCOE Phase One
Just in the process of throwing away the dynamo and fitting an altenator.........
On the right cold air tube to carb. Filter removed for the moment.
Square tube across the engine bay helps locate the dampers.......that are filled with engine oil to stiffen them up.
On the left the smaller diameter pipes are to the oil cooler, through the thermostat, which is located in front of the VW Golf Diesel plastic and alloy radiator.
Top left you can just see one of the two master cylinders to give a split brake system with an adjustable balance bar in the cockpit.
Top right is the ex-fresh orange juice bottle that is for the screen washer fluid.......it gets emptied when competing.
Bottom left...yep that is the horn!!!!!!...saves weight.
Note the drilled water pump pulley!!!!!! You can't see the front pulley which had 1lb machined off it too match the flywheel which weighs 15lb down from the standard wieght of 32lb
Oh......exhaust is a Derrington 3-2-1 downpipe.
All pretty standard stuff really.....................

Different pedal box again Paul! Is that a modified Mini or Metro set-up? I also have a VW Golf radiator, a convenient size and it is a crossflow.
