I cannot find what has happened on ebay. I often like to look up 'ebay - kitcar' and save this title in my Favorites. This then shows up between 60 and 120 kitcars available for sale. However what has started to happen is that this title now results in hundreds of accessories for kitcars, not at all want I want to see. Now I've been using this title for years and it's always worked until now. I want to go back looking through Locost, Lomax, Ginetta (and so on) but it just doesn't seem to want to do it anymore.

Incidentally, and it's been mentioned in this forum before, is this one of the few forums which fails to send the poster an email telling him that one of his posts has been replied to? I often pop in here every few months and see replies I wasn't aware of.

Hi Paul
This is the link I have always used, and it still works.

http://motors.shop.ebay.co.uk/items/Kit-Cars__W0QQ_armrsZ1QQ_mdoZCarsQ2dPartsQ2dVehiclesQQ_msppZQQ_pcatsZ9801Q2c9800QQ_sacatZ29750QQ_sopZ1

Ebay does seem to have made a lot of changes recently, very annoying.
I actually LOOKED at the Olympic a week or so ago.... but that's all.

Also when you post, there is a tick box at the bottom labeled 'Notify me when a reply is posted'

Thanks Paul, I've added the link to my Favourites. I like to day dream every now and again.

And now you've told me of the 'Notify me' box - thank you.

As we write, I am building the (very expensive) base for a 6m x 6m timber garage/workshop I bought of eBay a few months ago. The final concrete lorry should be hear by the end of the week. The Rochdale and my three bikes will all be under cover for the first time in this millenium!

Why is it that potential buyers on ebay often ask the seller how the kitcar is described on the registration document? I don't understand that. What difference does it make (for instance) whether a car is a 'Dutton Sierra' or a 'Ford Special' or a 'rebodied Escort'?

Paul, the reason is that if the car is (say) a Cobra replica but the registration document says "Jaguar" then at MOT time there may be a problem and ultimately the vehicle may have to go through SVA.
I think people ask the question to find out if the car was correctly registered when built or whether the builder did nothing and continued to use the doner's registration and hence registration number.
This is something that the new MOT system with everything computerised and linked to DVLA makes more difficult to get away with. It was always interesting when at a Kit-car show to read the tax disks!

Ah, I see, I think. But if a Rochdale GT (for instance) has a registration document which says Ford Popular rather than Rochdale GT, it would make no difference. Only with the more recent kitcars which require to comply with the regs. Am I right?

Paul, I've mislaid the link you sent me for getting my scanner going again. Could you please send it again, ta?

Going back to kitcars on ebay, it's easy to see which cars are 'in vogue' and which are disliked. Dutton Sierras, Dutton Phaetons and those 4-seater Ginettas are almost worthless. The Sierrras aren't bad looking cars, are they?

I'm not sure about older kitcars of the Ford Special era. I know my GT was registered as a Ford Rochdale (or Rochdale Ford I can't remember which) and that this was unusual. Most people didn't bother, but the MOT man when presented with a GT which should be a Ford Popular would be able to spot the difference.
I think with something that old there is a mechanism to legalise it all, but if you had a car like a Bugatti replica it might be difficult to get it through an SVA which the DVLA might insist on.
I will have a word with a friend of mine who is an MOT tester and see what he says about Ford Specials (I don't expect he gets many to test though).
I will look back through my emails and resend the one re. the scanner.
How is the garage coming on?

Thankyou for the scanner stuff.

The garage is complete and watertight. The fluorescent light fittings are in place and wired up and the triple powerpoints also. I just need to do the final wiring into the light switch and consumer unit, then a catenary cable and armoured cable back to the house to get 'proper' lighting and power. Then paint the floor. However as I've just had a silicone implant in my big toe joint, it's all a bit tender and will be for some weeks.

Most people have silicone implants somewhere else!

I will ring you in the new year and come and have a look, it sounds great.
