HAs anyone got any recommendations ? Its one thing thats missing from my car, I don't want a servo as I don't think its necessary or desirable in a light car intended for racing, but I'd like to know what was fitted as standard ( or as standard as anything Rochdale can be !)
thanks |

Give me your e-mail address and I will photograph mine and send the pics to you.
My car is a late P2 with Ford running gear and Triumph front suspension.
I would be interested in your thoughts on back axle location with the Rochdale standard parts.
Regards

The original pedal box was made in house and frankly a bit crude. There are much better stock items available and hopefully you will get plenty of good advice here. |

Got to disagree Paul, The pedal box in mine is more than adequate in all respects, were there different types fitted? _________________ Ph.2 Ford 1500 GT

Dave
It's been quite a while since I last looked at my pedal box but some years ago I had a look at one removed from the car (I've owned three) and it was a poorly made and designed effort which was attached to the car with about ten small bolts. At the time I remember asking someone why they went to the bother of making the pedal box and pedals when stock items were available off the shelf and was told that Messrs Smith & Butterworth simply didn't want to spend the money. Which was a bit odd as the pedal box and pedals must have taken hours to construct. Perhaps not all cars were fitted with these homemade efforts? |

interesting comment guys, thanks
I'm hoping to get p16 callipers and cortina discs on the front ( I have Ford drilled hubs ) although bearings stub axles may prohibit that . . . therefore the brakes will be exactly Cortina GT, so 0.75 master cylinder will suffice
photos more than welcome please, joe@throbnozzle-racing.co.uk
re back axle . . . . can't comment at present, never even driven one let alone played with one!
subframe is a more immediate priority, after I've built another COrtina and rebuilt the front end of mine, oh and built the fresh engine for the MK1 estate, and about 500 other things currently on the go, I seem to remember a wife and son also in the mix as well! |

Joe
If you want big brakes you can use Elan plus 2 parts or late Triumph Vitesse for a very easy fit.
It's what I have for mine, The complete front unit uses P16 calipers and is a direct swap for the early P14 type.
They crop up on ebay on a regular basis and are quite cheap.
I have also fitted lock stops to the rack based on the Lotus dimensions. I am sure we don't need a Triumph hearald turning circle and there is contact between tyre and floorpan at full lock.
While you are on with the front subframe it might be worth looking at the rack mounting as there was some serious bump steer issues on mine.
Will take pictures of pedal box in the next few days.
Regards

re pedal box, I have just fitted an off the shelf unit to a race cortina and it was a doddle, and under £200 . . . .I'll do the same to the Rochdale in due course. |

What's recommended; top or floor mounted pedal boxes as replacements? I have seen a few on demon tweaks and although mine is serviceable, it would take a bit to get it going. |

I can't recal whether your car is a phase 1 or a phase 2. the standard peddle box for the phase 1 is a modified classic mini, the phase 2 appears to have two types, at least we have encountered two different types on the phase 2 rebuilds we have done. The early phase 2 is a Rochdale part using horizontal clutch and brake master cylinders mounted in a fabricated box on top of the drivers footwell, the later type also uses horizontal clutch and brake master cylinders but these are mounted on the vertical part of the bulkhead above the drivers footwell.
All 3 types of peddle box are top hung which gives a better motion than a floor mounted box does.
We have converted phase 1's to front discs using a single aposed calliper from a Ford Ka or early escort, these work perfectly well with the standard mini master cylinders. My phase 1 is using 2 pot callipers and has had the mini master cylinder modified to use horizontal master cylinders, in this case 0.70" bore for the brakes. _________________ Working to increase the profile of Rochdale Cars |
