Hi all

I tried to insure my Olympic today to run it down for its MOT.

I rang Footman James who are on the last page of our magazine quote reference ROCH and the answer I received was that they are no longer taking on cars that are older than 1980. It is a new policy that they have just taken on.
Has any one else experianced this they are supposed to be a classic car insurer.

Regards

John

Hello John,

Not as such, but following a 100% increase in premium over 2 years and searching around for better quotes, all alternatives were lower than FJ. I went with Carole Nash for around £100. I concluded that FJ were using strategic pricing to get out of the market. It makes the back page of the current Mag a bit superfluous if it's true !

Howard

I ended up with Carole Nash as well, a little over £100.00 but my criteria would be different to yours.

Perhaps as a club someone aught to contact alternative insurers to see if a block discount may be available.

I believe Les Brown negosiated one with footman james way back in the day.

This may be a good one for Tony with his interest in Rochdales and there history.

In 2008 I negotiated a ROC discounted car insurance scheme with Footman James and the details have been on a full page in the club magazine since.
I have been with Footman James for 20 years including 12 years with “Duffy”, but since they were taken over by AON the service has gone downhill and the prices uphill.
In June 2 weeks before the renewal date for “Duffy” Footman James sent me a letter stating they no longer will insurer cars with modifications. So I do not think the club will continue with this scheme.
I recently had quotes for “Duffy” from 10 Classic Car brokers, with prices ranging from £76 to £238 for the same car, so some think wrong there then?
I think it is best for members to arrange their own insurance to their own needs.
I have gone with REIS who specialise in Racing and Rally cars and seemed to understand the finer details of my car and record it all down on my policy.

Tony

I agree with Tony it is best to arrange your own insurance.

To take the story further, my insurance is due on both of my BMW E30 M3's they now just come into the classic car side of things. One I have let lapse by a month as the insurers wanted £480.00 and I said no, the other one is due this month and the renewal is £458.00 which I also cancelled.

After spending a lot of time and effort on the phone as Tony did going round all the classic insurers I have ended up with the same company.

The original total being £938.00 plus, now as I said the same compay Adrian Flux are now going to insure both cars for £585.00 same stipulations on both cars..

I did the olympic for £98.00 with Carol Nash, who quoted £75.00 more for my two Bmw's.

As a point of interest the Churchill's of this world will not touch E30 M3's there are only two or three companies that will quote especially as one has been set up for track work.

So the moral being don't take it lying down, you have to check quotes every year, they are just trying it on.
