Hi
I am sure that many members would be interested in having new frames door frames made for their cars ?. One of the members has the ability to manufacture new frame but we are having problems in locating the right profile aluminium to build the doors.
I searched the Internet to try and locate a source of metal and/or the origanal metal but with no luck . I have made contact with a former factory worker and he was a welder and said that the frames were bought in and not manufactured in the Rochdale factory .
He seems to think that the metal was probably a BMC source, Anybody any ideas?

Morris Minor rings a bell - but I am not sure if this was Ph 1, 2, or indeed another model.

Derek Bentley told me that the door shape did not change from a Phase one to a phase two but the quality was improved and the gap that housed the glass was made slightly larger so that a insert could be added to stop the rattle of the glass. |

Hi All,
The picture at the top of this forum is of my door frames out of the car, they are not in the best condition and I too would also be looking to buy some if they were manufactured.
We have a committee meeting in 3 weeks, I'll see if the club would be willing to commission a production run to add to its spares list. It looks like 3 off us on here would be willing to purchase some, I'll add it to the agenda.

James
Do you think over the years with resprays ,alterations etc it might have altered the shape of the doors opening slightly and because of this the sizes might alter slightly from car to car?.
Do you think that one size would fit all ? or do you think that they would have to be made individually with individual measurements from each car .

I would also be interested, I have a Minor derived stainless steel frame on one side, but with the Al original on the other.
If we were to pursue this I would recommend stainless steel for increased stiffness and better sealing capability. Using the Minor dimensions would allow the use of Minor channel felts which are readily available and work well.
I think that the Phase 1 frame is shorter than Phase 2 at the front (inside) of the doors but a phase 2 pattern could be cut down to fit.
I've read somewhere that the L and R doors are not completely symmetrical with regards to the frame dimensions. Not sure whether it's true.

I have been looking for the last few months to try and find a match to the origanal profile that was used on the cars but with no success .
Contacted some of the big suppliers but its not a standard size and you would have a die made which would be expensive .I have located the correct size lipped channel but not one with a curve on the top edge like the original ?.
what ever the profile was used for over the last forty years or so its stopped . Sure the club will have contacts and know the best way forward ?.
Hope it happens soon ,my cars just waiting for the frames . Not a good look driving around with no windows in . but would get away with it in the summer .

James ,
Did any decisions get made in respect to having door frames manufactured by the club and putting them on the spares list ?.
Thanks
