Found a few fresh pictures of my Rochdale Olympic. Phase One MGB engine, 4 speed overdrive gear box.
Charging through the chicane at Curborough.
Through the speed trap at the bottom ess, Shelsley Walsh.
Sitting nicely four square at Curborough
Hard on the power exiting the chicane...look how the inside front wheel is almost off the tarmac...You didn't notice THAT from inside the car!!!
Mrs G driving back to the paddock...I love that low squat look.......and the car''
Showing off the notchback conversion...no rear screen available at the time...nice sized boot is the result.
One of my favourite photo's.....

These arrived before Christmas.....Alleycat 7x13. These are for the rears, I will still run 6x13 at the front. It means I can remove the rear spacers and the the outside rim will only be 1/4 of an inch wider as the extra width will be taken inboard.
Front have 185/60's and the rear will be shod with 205/60's

Finally got it back on 4 wheels. I have replaced all of the rubber in the front suspension with polyurethane bushes to help locate the front tyre patches better.
Tried the new rear 7 inch rims.....fit perfectly after removing the 1 inch spacer that I run with the 6 inch rims. The extra inch of width is all on the inside so that the wheels do not project any further than the 6 inch. I will retain 6 inch on the front shod with 185/60 and at the rear 7 inch with 205/60's.
Order the tyres Monday and need to re-trim the front suspension, tighten everything up at normal ride height, set the suspension angles and attend to all of the minor jobs to ensure it flies through the MOT. Looking good for end of February...April 2/3 is the first try out at Avon Park Raceway...A public track day to run your car down the drag strip...good for shakedown and blowing the cobwebs out of the car and driver.
Then the middle of April a test day with a sprint the following day at Curborough....and from theron the season rolls out to the hills.....

In the Gloom of a wet Sunday evening....The Rochdale sits on All Fours. The front ride height has to be lowered. New bushes fitted and torsion bars not set to correct level.....3/4 inch spacers fitted on the rear as the studs are too long....To be changed next weekend.......So with the Rear Wheels in a little and the front lowered it should look Pretty Mean....I Hope.....

This is turning into a bit of a Blog.......
Front suspension all done and sorted, need to adjust height of clutch pedal and then check all of the electrics to make sure that we can sail through the MOT.
Here is the hot seat.....note the Stiq keyring, worth a couple of seconds a lap?????......Big orange light is the oil warning light, comes on at less than 25psi
Engine bay....Need to tidy up the wiring a little....45DCOE through 1800cc 'B' series, out via Derrington LCB......111BHP at the rear wheels.....bags of torque, will pull up tree stumps in the winter.

Shorter wheel studs fitted and wheels now only protrude as far as the old 6".
12 year old mechanic is desperately trying to wish away 5 years so that he can take it out on the road....Patience, Boy, Patience.....
Meaty, Beaty, Big and Bouncy......

Hi Paul,
Well done, subject to MOT, its going to be great to see another Olympic on the road. I think 2011 could be a good year for Olympics.
Regards

Yay...It has passed the MOT. The only downside is that when I went to tax it they want £205..."HOW MUCH...IT'S OLD, VERY OLD!!!"
Well Sir, you need to go to the DVLA and they will change its taxation class from PLG to 'Historic'....Bugger, they don't open on Saturdays.
So will get that done Monday and Orft We Jolly Well Go..........

Thanks Rod....It does tend to hold its own. Motor cycle engined Westfields are a problem. However it is always driven to an event and is great fun on the road...a little noisy though.
I hope to be at the AGM with it....it needs a paint job to smarten it up, but at the moment the focus is to fettle it a little then get it painted.
Not bad for a car that is 46 years old....!!! _________________ If Winning doesn't matter why do they keep score? |
