Hi Neil,
You could always cut, save the pieces to refit at a later date if you need to, The beauties of fiberglass
Regards Keith

I think I'll cut. I really want to keep them as is, but I don't have the time ATM with the spaceframe car starting construction...then again I might change my mind. It would have to be a damn big flare to accomodate a turned wheel in bump.
Re torsion bars: thanks for the link. I'll see how much helper springs will cost and I'll let you know.

Regards Neil

> Hi Neil.
> i agree when driving small cars you need to be seen and drive like you ride a bike.
> I have a set of Major Elite torsion bars as spares that are apparently stiffer than Minor ones to take the weight of the 1620cc B series engine.
> I am lead to believe the Marina 6 cylinder ones are even stiffer.
> Check this site for adapters for minor/marina bars.

> Spring rates of them I do not know. You could check out the front suspension kit at the above web site. A bit expensive though at GBL750 odd.
> As to the flared guards 2 choices, Cut or go to a skinner rim and tyre combination. Lower profile may help??

>> I took the Olympic for a drive up in the hills, the first

>> This was useful for three reasons:
>> 1. It confirmed the need for new dampers and maybe some
>> helper springs on the front to assist the torsion bars -
>> perhaps an easier solution to finding some of the
>> near-mythical harder torsion bars?
>> 2. The engine needs lots of work on the tune. What seemed
>> good enough for a WOT blat up a short course was pretty damn
>> tiring on a public road. Situation was enlightening - at
>> 3000rpm in 4th all was fine if a little unhappy and then
>> change into 5th and no torque. This would seem to indicate
>> that the progression circuit is too lean.
>> 3. The front drivers guard caught a tyre at the Mt Cootha
>> Classic and slit the fibre glass. This guard had been flared
>> out 15mm, but was obviously not enough. The idea of going
>> through yet another flaring exercise is not very
>> encouraging, so I may copy the cut away guards of many other
>> Rochdale owners. In truth I do not want to do this as I
>> think the original guards suit the car, but I may have
>> little choice as the front drivers guard split again.
>> So one drive and yet more work...I am glad that I did not
>> go for the full restoration/paint/interior without going for
>> a few hard runs and finding these issues, tiring though they
>> are.
>> I saw Paul Narramores comment on the colour. The colour
>> used was not my first choice, but having driven this a few
>> times around the place I am very aware of how small it is on
>> Australian roads...so I think of it like a motorcycle - the
>> easier you are to see the 'safer' you are.
>>
>> Regards,
