It is with deep sadness that I bring the news that a dear friend of mine and the ROC, John West passed away on the 6th of June after a battle with heart problems. John would have been 91 later this month.
John was the original owner and builder in 1963 of Olympic Phase II reg, 902 DUF, known to all as “Duffy”
John was an Aero Modeller of International repute. He travelled in Duffy all over the UK and Europe in the 1960s,70s and 80s representing his Modelling Club and Great Britain in National, European and World, Model Aircraft Championships.
Long-term club members will remember all the articles John wrote in the club magazine about building Duffy, his many visits to the factory in Rochdale,
his travels in the UK and abroad, his many modifications to Duffy to make it a better car and the car shows he attended.
John sold Duffy in August 1994 to Richard Parker the Olympic designer. John had owned Duffy for 31 Years and covered 205,675 miles in the car.
John West, Rest In Peace and our thoughts at this sad time are with his family and many friends.
