Hi John, I haven't done it, but I know Burton supply a kit for converting the Type 9 box to hydraulic.
I'm going hydraulic, but with a Mazda RX8 gearbox.

Are we talking about a concentric slave cylinder?

Sorry not sure what you mean, thinking of fitting a ford Escort engine and box but the clutch is cable operated and would like to fit a slave cyl to the box. I have read somewhere if you use a cable system you have to reinforce the bulk head to suit, plus just fitted a new clutch Master cyl |

John,
Is the bellhousing you have removable from the gearbox? If so you might be able to swap it for a similar item from an earlier type (hydraulic).
The anglia or cortina might be worth looking at.

John,
The simplest way to achieve what you are after is to go for a Ford 3 rail gearbox
from a 105E Anglia or a Bullet box as fitted to the Corsair 2000E with the remote removed.
I have one of these fitted to the lightweight and we have a phase 2 in with a 1700cc crossflow using the same gearbox.
Both these car have hydraulic clutches. _________________ Working to increase the profile of Rochdale Cars |

I have taken a couple of pictures which may help, they are of the 3rail clutch system on the crossflow powered car we are doing. Please ignore the cobwebs covid has slowed progress to a crawl.
Just to be clear the slave cylinder is a temporary one so that we can judge the clearance when we start to make the exhaust manifold, and the pushrod/actuator isn't fitted. _________________ Working to increase the profile of Rochdale Cars |
