Fortunatly we have fiberglass bodyshells but all the running gear is steel/iron and corrodes badly. Following is a method to fix the corrosion problem once and for all for all those in the throes of a restoration.
You can go from this:-

To this:-

With virtually no effort and expense
Here is what you need:-

Cost is around 50p from your local supermarket
Mix with water at approx 1-2 tablespoons / 4.5 litres of water.
You also need a bit of steel plate/sheet, a battery charger and a wire brush.

Connect the battery charger negative to the object to be de-rusted and the positive to the steel plate. Fix the object to be de-rusted to be in the liquid as submerged as possible and turn on the battery charger and leave for a few hours.
Remove the object and scrub in clean water to remove all traces of remaining red rust. If any remaining red rust is difficult to remove put back in the tank for a few more hours.
When all the red rust has gone you will have a black covering on the object which can be removed easily with a wire brush.
Prime and paint as soon as possible.
A few points to note:-
1) It is safe to dispose of the liquid down the drains
2) Always turn the charger off at the mains before disconnecting the clips
3) Top up the liquid level with water and not the mixture.
4) Clean the steel plate after each job
5) Don't let the object and the steel plate touch each other
Try it, you will like it.
Any questions just ask
Regards
Dave
Merry Xmas

What a brilliant idea ! It saves trying to wirebrush with a drill etc, especially if the rusted part is an awkward shape. I will have to try it out.
