Alexandre

If you write to Derek at -

259 Junction Road, Burgess Hill, West Sussex RH15 0NX you would probably get your answer.

Rod is right, the publishing of the owners of cars could well contravene the Data Protection Act, although I cannot see what harm there would be in saying "John Smith, Brighton, Ph1 ABC123".

with so few cars, and so few members surely knowing who's local to you is useful, the forum is members only, the mag is members only, the club quite happily published peoples names and car ownership details in the magazine so why not a list (password protected) on the website.

If owners want or are happy to have a picture of their car then great . . . .take a leaf out of the Turner OC website maybe, you can trace everything by chassis No.

at the very least publishing a picture of a pile of rot might get some of us to buck our ideas up and actually get a car back together and running! Embarassed

I totally agree with you and here is an example where it would have helped.

I have always been interested in the Olympic, although I had never seen one in the flesh, as they are rare and I live in West Wales, miles from anywhere. Three or four years ago, on a main road in my area, I spotted a green Olympic driving towards me, then it was gone. A year or so later I saw it again in similar circumstances, but I was not driving so I couldn't follow it, lost again. I thought that it must either be local, or more likely be someone holidaying here in Pembrokeshire. I telephoned an active member of the club who restores Olympics , but he didn't know the car.

I joined the ROC earlier this year, and bought one of Paul Hutchings' Olympics, the first I had actually seen. Within a few weeks I saw the green Olympic again, this time on a roundabout in town. I chased it into a supermarket carpark, and there I met Ron Moles who had owned the Olympic for a good many years. He was most helpful in answering questions that I had, and I was able to look over only the second real life Olympic that I had ever seen.

The surprise was that Ron lived in the next village to me, about 4 miles away, and despite me having lived here for 25 years I had only seen the car those two times, even though he keeps it "on the road" all the time.

Take a leaf out of the Turner's website and use the chassis numbers? Unfortunately this wouldn't work as the chassis numbers were not allocated sequentially at the factory ie 001, 002, 003, etc, but left to the new owners to make one up ie ABC123, John1, etc.

Certainly listing them by registration numbers would be fine (by me) although when this has been discussed at previous AGMs, all sorts of objections connected with confidentiality and so on were mentioned.

Past issues of the ROC magazines have contained lists allbeit out of date by now.

The solution is for the club committee to come to a decision and to include them on this strangly quiet website. (Perhaps it's something we said?) No, I don't know why either that only four or five of us write on here and one hundred souls don't. Perhaps no one else bothers to look in here? Wink
