Another question- What car does the windscreen wiper system come from? My wipers are all over the place. The pic of GUY 541 C, and others, shows a pair of wipers neatly parked. Mine don't touch the screen very much and are very slow.

Anyone updated theirs and are prepared to tell, please?

Rod

when I had a TVR Vixen I found on the interweb a parts list of virtually everything in/on the car.

I can easily scan and provide part Numbers for anything Ford Cortina, ie engine, clutch, gearbox, rear axle and brakes, as its all in the Cortina parts manual. and incidentally, everythings readily available, and I mean everything.

the things thats difficult is all the ancilliaries like lights, switchgear, handles, trim pieces etc, I had no idea the rear window catches where anglia, or where my (std 10) door handles came from, the other one looks like a Ford handle of some description, maybe anglia ?

Rod, I don't know where the original wiper set up came from but the following may help.
1) Virtually any wheel box from the 60's or 70's will do, or even later eg. Mini. Worn wheel boxes are the usual cause of wobbely wipers in the rest position You can buy new from ebay.
2) The spacing tube for the rack can easily be cut to length, to correctly space the wheel boxes, and the ends flared with one of the lager fittings from a brake pipe flaring tool.
3) If you remove the cover on your wiper motor it will expose the large drive gear which the rack is connected to. On the face of this gear is stamped a number, this number is the arc the blade will travel through.
If the arc is wrong for your car you will have to track down a suitable gear/motor.
I will get you the number from my wiper motor and post it up shortly.
4) While you have the cover off it will be good to swap the 40 year old grease for more recent stuff. Fresh lubrication for the rack and wheel boxes will help also.
5) If the wipers are still slow it might be worth dismantling the motor further and lubricating the bronze bush at the end of the armature, checking the brushes and cleaning the commutator ring.
Over the years I have revived a few motors this way (tight aren't I)
Regards
Dave

Thank you Dave, the arc on mine is too small- will await your gear number!

Rod, the angle on mine is 130 degrees. the motor is a Lucas DR3A (76801) It's a 2 speed motor, I think there was a single speed version too.

regards
Dave

Good find Paul, Either of the top two will do, single speed and two speed.

Just one furthur thought, the ali disc with the brown wire attached is rotated to adjust the park position.
Regards
Dave

Hi all,

Was the handbrake from the MGA? Where did the door mirrors come from?

James

James, The operating lever on the handbrake is stamped MOWOG and it's a fly-off type so it would indicate an early BMC sportscar was the donor.
MGA, Healey 3000 or Frogeye sprite or possibly all three as a common part.
I have never owned any of the above so it's speculation on my part.

I have a picture of an MGA fly-off handbrake and it seems identical to the one fitted to my P2.

I have always assumed it was MGA, but probably difficult to get hold of these days. The MGB system is very similar, and could probably be used instead. Much easier to find parts for, but not fly-off (although there was a modification to make it so).
I could put up scans from the workshop manuals if necessary.

Hi all,

this table is simple, practice and interesting, for Turners :

http://www.turnersportscars.co.uk/t_tech_spares.html

Alex, if you look on James' Rochdale project website, origin of parts, you can see that he has made a good start already. I think the photos are a cracking idea, rather than just part numbers. I suppose that the Turner site gives an idea of which components we have to source.

He just needs more input from all of us!

Rod

PS. Handbrake = MGA

Not many Renault Dauphines left for our steering column U/Js. They rusted badly from new!
