Hi Dave & Alex,
I did not own "DUFFY" in 1989. It was owned by John West from 1963 to
1994, 31years and 205,657miles.
Dave,
When the car was new in 1963 it had a pre-crossflow 1500cc Cortina
engine and I think they were the engine mounting supplied with the
complete kit at the time.
Alex,
As John lived in Brighton at the time I would think that is the correct
Formula One.
Regards
Tony |

The pedal box is from a Mini (Issigonis not BMW) and the clutch and brake cylinder mounts are used for the two brake master cylinders. a modified pedal has a balance tube and bar welded to it.
The radiator is from a VW Golf Diesel....don't know the actual model.
I have used it in Sprints and Hill-Climbs........the modifications should be ready for next season.
It ran the standing quarter at Long Marston Drag Strip in 13.2secs...97mph over the finish.
Here it is at Shelsley Walsh.........

Paul G Your car looks really well balanced, just out of curiosity, how did you deal with the torsion bars on the front, and what other mods did you do.
What class do you run in?
have you ever done Harewood and if so what times did you get, just so I have a reference as to how quick your car is.
Do you have any Rolling road figures?
Regards

those engine mounts are to suit the absolutely rubbish Anglia type mounts
I have solid versions of the same developed for Elan race cars with 30% stiffer rubber and they don't collapse after 200 yards! |

Hi Alex,
Your spare engine was built and fitted into “DUFFY” in September 1989
and I believe had only done 7,000 miles when Richard removed and sold it.
Below are the specifications and costs + photo in 1989.
Plus 2 photos of the engine bay in Sept 1989
The car is a April 1963 Phase 11 Olympic.
VULCAN FORD 1700cc CROSSFLOW ENGINE SPECIFICATION - 110bhp
Block bored and honed to use Hepolite 0.060" pistons, crank is ground and assembled with Vandervell bearings, Kent BCF2 cam with new followers. Big valve 'Maxiflow 1' head using 1,625" inlet valves, 1.325" exhaust, extra strong single springs, high pressure oil pump (60psi), steel rocker posts with new shaft, lightened flywheel, Piper XF distributor (extra).
The Kent BCF2 camshaft is described by the manufacturers as a fast road cam which qives approximately 8bhp over the GT cam, and and a power band between 2000 and 6500rpm.
Now for the cost of all this -
VULCANS X-Flow 1660cc modified engine £495
Head converted to lead-free £100
Piper distributor, supply and fit £70
Supply and fit clutch £75
£740 + VAT £111 £851
FORMULA ONE One new Weber DCD carburettor and linkage, re-jetted to suit tune of engine, one set of silicone plug leads, one new throttle cable - £149.17 + VAT £22.38 - £171.55

Misters,
Not in an Olympic, but do you think if this engine will be better with twin 40 DCOE ?
I have this engine and I am dreaming _________________ Alexandre Contat

you can get good power figures from a crossflow, personally I think a good precrossflow is a nicer engine to drive, and equally tuneable |

yes like this http://www.throbnozzle-racing.co.uk/1584GT.htm
but in first time I don't want to change my GT engine.
No, my question is for an other car. _________________ Alexandre Contat
