Thanks for the information Dave, i have not touched the rack since, so still the same. If i can't find the pinion shims i will look out for a old rack and maybe be able to use some parts from that. thanks john

These are the pinion shims fitted to my Riley rack which i need i think they come in 0.003"
0.005"
0.0010" if anyone can help thanks

John,

Dimensions for a mini rack shim that I have just taken from a spare rack I have, It won't be a perfect fit but it should be easy enough to buy a few and check if this is indeed the issue.
It looks like a paper gasket in the picture but it's a brass shim at 0.003" thickness.
