Can someone tell me the Dimensions and Spring rate of the units supplied by the club?

Just the springs and not the dampers

Howard Evans wrote an article for the magazine about rear springs some time ago, may be worth a look at. Here are the original dimensions for the rears,

Springs : 14.75 coils, wound from 0.4375" diameter wire with an outside diameter of 3.5625" and a free length of 12.75". Spring rate 132lb/in.

The fronts as far as I am aware are the same as the triumph, spring rate 150lb/in.

The springs AVO supply, in what they call their standard Rochdale package, are Part No. E12130 2.25" 130lb. All round.

Be interesting to see how these work, might need to change as Keith says, be a while before I find out though.

This raises a few issues:-

1) Are AVO wrong and they did supply springs to the club?

2) Do the AVO's supplied by the club come with springs? They used to I bought a set some time ago.

3) Who originally did the spec. for these units and what was that spec.

4) If the club intends to continue supplying these units it might be worth updating the price on the website.

5) The following is my opinion only and not intended as criticism. If the club is to continue supplying these units for the Phase 2 it is important that the full spec is available to enable future customers to make an informed decision as to their suitability.

Finally received my Rossendale Springs last week after many months of waiting. I supplied them the specs from the Olympic Running book. I got the impression they sub-contracted the work out. Each spring cost £120 plus VAT plus carriage.
The large diameter end was flat so it mated nicely with the cap. However the small diameter end was not and eventually I found myself grinding it flat because it was cocking the assembly sideways when I assembled it with the AVO damper.
The only other problem I can see is that the top washer below the two nuts is a larger diameter than the existing hole in the body of the car. Which means either grinding down the washer diameter or enlarging the hole in the car body. With the land between cap studs and the hole being quite small, my preference is to reduced the washer size.
You will note the spring look a little battered, this was a consequence of having to assemble/disassemble a few times and the spring compressors sliding round as the springs cocked over. A repaint will be in order.

Thanks for the info, I have some spare original top rubbers and washers I can let you have, It will save butchering the hole in the shell or modifying the AVO top washers.
You have shown the rear shockers? and I am assuming we are talking Phase 2.
So far we have 3 different springs and I suspect we have not finished yet.

Interesting e mail from AVO. I bought dampers and springs from them last year.

I ordered the 12" 130lb springs because AVO advised me that was the specification they had for the Olympic! They seem to imply that that is what I specified.

I'll be fitting the rears shortly, so we'll see how it goes.

Re your comment, the original specification for the Olympic springs has been detailed in the 'Olympic parts list' for both phase 1 and phase 2 models.

The owners club only supply dampers to the original specification as far as I am aware.
