I have just been reading the Derek Bennet story and it would appear this well known racing car designer/manufacturer had a close connection with Rochdale motor panels in period.
Derek's early racing career was with the 750 motor club (as many were) and Derek built and raced what appears to be a Rochdale Mk2 in 750 formula and later 1172 formula trim.
Interestingly he also built an Olympic lightweight which unfortunately was destroyed at Oulton Park during its first test session. _________________ Working to increase the profile of Rochdale Cars |

I am led to believe that Derek Bennet,s 750 Formula car was purchased from Joe Fray in 1957 and unfortunately it is not a Rochdale Mk II.

In 1961 Derek Bennet was involved in building a Racing Olympic for Derek Alderson. This car is known as the "Olympic that flew" after its accident testing at Oulton Park.
The "History Archive" has no record/evidence of this Olympic been a "Lightweight". Any information/evidence on this Olympic been a "Lightweight" would be most welcome. _________________ Rochdale Olympic History Archive |
