Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

I should probably introduce myself first as I'm new to this forum...

My name is Anders Bilidt, I'm 42 years of age, married and father of two lovely daughters. I'm also a Dane who is living in the UK as my work as a commercial pilot brought us here. For the past three years we've lived in the north-western corner of the Peak District which we thoroughly enjoy.

Furthermore, I'm a diehard classic car enthusiast. Any classic car makes me smile, though I've always had a profound interest in BMW 02's of the late sixties and early seventies. But I'm by no means a one-brand-kinda-guy, and I've owned plenty of other fun classics.

Back in 2001 I saw a Rochdale Olympic in the flesh for the first time while visiting the NEC Classic Car Show, and it was love at first sight. I'm not sure I entirely believed I would ever get to own one myself, but I certainly never forgot it. Btw. I also co-own and run a web-based classic car magazine called ViaRETRO. The first time I confessed to my feelings for the Olympic was as part of this article about British specialist sports cars:

Things progressed which in turn led to this next article about my obsession:

And then I happened to bump into Keith Hamer during the Manchester Classic Car Show 2016. This is when everything took a sudden turn. Suddenly, actually becoming a Rochdale owner seemed achievable. I got all excited and then this happened back in April of this year:

http://www.viaretro.com/2018/04/my-rochdale-olympic-project/

So I'm now the thrilled owner of a 1963 Rochdale Olympic Phase 1. After purchasing the car, it stayed at Keith's as he is restoring at the very least the body shell and the suspension components for me.

I obviously have the expertise of Keith at hand, but I'm sure as the project progresses, I'll no doubt also be asking plenty of questions in here on the forum. I hope you'll all put up with me... Wink

Stay tuned for more!

Hello Anders and welcome to the forum.
Please post all you want, the forum could do with it.
Where do you fly from? and what aircraft?
I took the liberty of doing a google search on your name when it popped up as the latest member and found your online magazine. Very interesting and a good read. I look forward to your future posts here and more of your Magazine.
Regards, Dave

Hi Dave and thank you. Wink

I'm based out of Manchester - hence why we now live in the north-western corner of the Peak District with the Snake Pass virtually on our door step.
I currently fly the A330 - so all long-haul stuff.

I'm glad you found ViaRETRO. Even more so that you think it's a good read.

Hi everyone,

We've just published an update on my Olympic on ViaRETRO today.
Keith has made good progress with the shell:

Won't be that long now before she's sporting a shiny coat of fresh paint. That's always such a distinct turning point in any restoration process... Very Happy

Hi Dave,

I'll be attempting to resurrect the little olympic to a spec very close to how it was first born. So it'll be painted a light pale blue.
Rear wheel arches will be left stock and uncut, and I even intend to run steel wheels on it.
A few minor and perfectly period modifications might work there way into the Olympic, but on the whole it should present very authentic...

I'm trying to establish a more complete history of my Olympic with reg number 926 FWR. I was hoping that someone in here might be able to help? Thus far - thanks to Tony Stanton and Keith Hamer - I know the following.

1st owner. William Tolhurst. First registration in Yorkshire in September 1963.
2nd owner. John Garforth. Took over the Olympic in 1978. Kept it on the road until around 2008 when it was parked up requiring work.
3rd owner. Keith Hamer. Bought it in June 2015 from the second owner when he fell ill.
4th owner. myself. Bought it from Keith in March 2018.

Does anyone have more information about the cars previous history. Anything, even the smallest little detail, is of interest to me...

Hi Howard,

Tony Stanton did reply to one of my articles over on ViaRETRO, but other than that I haven't had contact with him.
If he could help with any of the history of my Olympic, it would certainly be hugely appreciated!

Hello Anders,

My apologies for the delay in getting in touch. I am in the through's of a very messy house move at the moment, the chain on the house I am selling has collapsed and I now have 2 houses.
Fingers crossed in the next 2 weeks it will be sorted and I can get back to my Rochdale Olympic list of things to do.
I will by in touch as soon as possible.

Best regards,

Tony.

Hi Tony,

No rush. Get private life and finances sorted first.
My wife keeps chanting to me that they should always come before my classic car hobby... Bhaaa... what does she know?? Wink

Hi All,

As I have now completed my messy house move (after a year and a half) I now have more time for the “Rochdale Olympic History Archive”

I have now sent Anders the archive entry for his Olympic 926 FWR. Unfortunately, Derek Bentley and I do not have any history of this Olympic from the 1960s or early 1970s, the first photograph we have is 2016.
So if anyone can help with early history and photos please get in touch.

I would like at this point to remind members that the number of past owners on your V5 document may not be the number of owners from your Rochdales registration in the 50s, 60s or early 70s
but the number of owners from when the DLVC went computerised.

“Local authorities used to be responsible for the registration of vehicles. In the late 1970s, however, a centralised licensing system was introduced by the DVLC and owners were asked to provide details of their vehicles.

The DVLC was able to record only the information as provided, so in some (most) cases, where changes of owner occurred before the 1980s and the DVLC was not informed, these will not appear on the vehicle registration certificate.”

I am also led to believe that due to the Data Protection Act, the current V5 does not include the last owners name and address.
If anyone has a new V5 does it still include the number of past owners?

Regards,

Tony.
