What are owners' views on the best/most durable finish for Phase 2 rear trailing arms?
I'd originally thought hot dipped galvanising followed by a 'T Wash' and an appropriate paint finish, however the arms have been fabricated from previously plated mild steel (ground away on welded joints) and the galvanisers aren't happy working with a previously plated surface.

I'd considered powder coating but in my experience it's often brittle and a stone chip will allow the ingress of water and on comes the corrosion.
For me the most obvious problem with a painted finish is ensuring adequate coverage of the cavities.

I'm not in the first flush of youth and my adult children are already looking enviously at who might be the lucky inheritor, so I'd like to ensure that whoever it is won't be faced with an early replacement of suspension components.
So all suggestions based on your experience would be most welcome.

Many thanks. B.J.

A good quality etch primer followed by an oil based chassis paint. If the arms are off the car you could even poor the primer into the cavities, once built up some Waxoil or Deltron sprayed inside as an extra measure might not go a miss.

Many thanks Keith, the arms are indeed off the car, so I'll give it a go.
