As it is a good few years since our Olympics were manufactured, it must follow that the original builders are getting older, and we will soon lose their knowledge of the parts that went into them.

Several recent posts have asked for the origin of parts and, as a very recent owner of a Phase 2 and member of this club, I am not aware of any lists of these parts that are available to all members. At one time I had an old TVR and there was a site with the origin of most parts listed. I know that our cars are relatively simple and each builder probably did it his way but there are still many parts that must be common to all of them.

I appreciate that long time members probably know most, if not all the answers to part origins, and probably don't realise that we new members may need a little help!!

Is there a parts list somewhere that could be printed out? If not perhaps we could pool our knowledge and add to our own parts list as we discover where they originated?

Thank you James for the offer of your website.

The list could be divided into sections- for example:

Engine. a section each on the MGB and the Ford engines. Eg exhaust manifold, mountings.

Brakes- Pedal box, mastercylinders( and sizes), calipers rear cylinders etc.

Exterior trim, bonnet hinges, boot hinges, bonnet lock, boot lock, fuel filler caps, rear window hinges and catches.

Front suspension, wheel pcd adapter

Wheels

Steering

Rear axle

Rear suspension

Doors, windows, window frames, door locks, door handles inside and outside, hinges

Lights, the large red rear lights are from an MG ZB Magnette I believe. In this case the Club's spares list gives the part numbers.

And so on.

If anyone has part numbers they would help, and indeed alternatives that fit/do a better job. Where do you get steel petrol tanks from, are they any good?

I am sure that someone will think of a better idea, but something along the lines of the above will pool our knowledge. Anyone with old Club mags may extract some information to put on here.

So thinking caps on, compile your list and wait to see how James would like the information sent to him! I would see the list being added to slowly over a period of time, probably as work is being done that makes you search for an origin or replacement part.

My reversing lamp on my early phase 2 is different to yours, the glass is more conical and there are two external screws, one on each side. If I could conquer this album thing, I would put a picture up!

The lucas 574 does the number plate light as well, on my car was a Hella rectangular lamp, quite small (50mm. x 14mm.approx.) which was fitted directly at the bottom of the reverse light. This number plate light was totally u/s and unforunatly I threw it in the bin.
Will add a picture of the nearest replacement I could find. it's a little larger and won't fit exactly as per original but it will do for me.
Regards
Dave

I think my car had a non original number plate light.
Below is a picture of the one I will use, the one I removed was 70% of the size of this but as I don't want to fix the old fixing holes I will use this
one. It has no ID markings.
