John Walkington built his Rochdale C Type from new in 1956 and still owns the car after all these years. In its early years, many miles were covered travelling the length of Britain as a salesman, and plenty of success was gained in local hill climbs and circuit races. John still has the speed trap figures of 106mph from an early race - not bad for a Ford sidevalve - but still used the car to take wife Margaret on honeymoon, even with no door on the passenger side! The side valve engine is now long gone, and with a well-tuned Kent engine the car is now considerably quicker.
