Hi please can anyone advise on the original spec for olympic phase 1 wheels. My olympic like many others has had its wheels replaced with alloy wheels and wider arches and it is my intention to go back to original spec. I have managed to lay my hands on a set of 14" wheels (believed Riley) which are 4" in width and have a positive offset of about 35mm - i am presuming Riley items were used as my Olympic was initially based on the Riley set up. The order sheet that i have from the club suggests the original owner also had to pay extra for the wheels to be drilled which also leads me to think that blank Riley rims were used. Is there anybody out there still using their original rims and how do they cope in todays environment.

In the back of my mind I seem to recall that they were a Vauxhall wheel, but I do'nt know which one, or if it is true.
Or was for the phase 2? |

The wheels shown in Alex's photo are similar to those sought though most of the early literature on the Olympic seems to depict the Olympic with wheel rims with holes present around the rim. Rod's reply has added to the debate - can anyone else help. |

I have got 13'' x 4.5j early pattern cosmic alloys 0n my ph 1 with no alteraton to the wheel arches and they look great. I think the original 14'' steel skinnies don't do the cars looks any favours, oops controversial or what.

The original steel wheels were of course Riley 1.5 14" diameter wheels but with a series of eight (1 1/4"?) holes, in pairs, drilled by RMP around the hub. Also fitted were chrome hub caps.
I'm not going to get into a discussion, Robert, about originality as I think that deserves a thread of it's own. |

Phase 2 wheels are 4.5" x 14" sourced from the Vauxhall Victor. These need special nuts as the Vauxhall used a large diameter stud.
cheers

The Motorbase website shows the Victors as having 13" wheels. The first of the Victors in 1957 were launched with 13s and the 1964 ones were still on 13s. If the phase ones used Riley 14" wheels then you would expect the phase 2s to also use 14s as they used the same rear axle, not 13s!
