The designation phase 11R appears to be the description which has been adopted to denote an Olympic phase 2 which uses Riley front suspension rather than the more known Triumph suspension.
Latterly in the production Rochdale Motor Panels were using the phase 2 moulds for all Olympics, if the customer wanted to use Riley/Minor components for their car then it was fitted with a phase 1 front subframe but maintained a phase 2's larger bonnet aperture, thinner doors, and rear hatch.
This nominal designation shouldn't be confused with any reference to a racing model. _________________ Working to increase the profile of Rochdale Cars |

Hi Dave,
When the Phase 11 came out in 1963, there where customers who still wished for BMC running gear. So RMP carried on supplying Phase 1 bodies.
When the Phase 1 mould became worn out, instead of making a new mould RMP fitted the Phase 1 front subframe into the Phase 11 bodyshell.
RMP never gave this bodyshell a name, but over the years people started calling it a Phase 1 1/2.
But as the only Phase 1 part is the subframe and the rest is Phase 11 we decided for the Olympic History Archive to call the model a Phase 11R (R for Riley).
Regards,
Tony.
PS) Dave you have a PM. _________________ Rochdale Olympic History Archive |
