Hi everyone & a HAPPY NEW YEAR! This is Robert Hilton, I was a member many years ago and still have ELX 628 C a Phase 2 with 1500 ford GT.
On the fifth day of ownership it blew out a tyre at 80 - 90 mph & cartwheeled down a ditch. Yours truly was smoking / unconsious / 10 gals of 4 star dribbling out / stuck in a fibreglass car 11 - 12 PM at night and invisible from the road. Who says that we don't have gaurdian angels looking over us?
Anyway I'm in need of some help if the above is ever to get as far as a test station for it's MOT. When the weather was not quite so bitter my friend Barry & I tried to fit the drivers door, with much slamming and GRP grinding. Well you can guess what happened - we broke the laminated glass. What I want to know is whether I have to rip the outer off the door body to replace the glass, or is it possible to remove the old & replace it without butchery?
Some other topics while I'm at it - Does the Phase 2 have a Riley rear axle & Girling brakes / is this different from the Wolsey 1500 axle ? I have a duff slave cyclinder and need to get a spare. Can you still get the switch for the Ford g/box to operate the reversing light? The header tank on my car is a brass unit off a Triumph I believe. I've tried to be clever and fitted a long filler neck with temperature sensor / fan switch (Burton Performance Parts) to the thermostat housing, but it isn't high enough and doesn't hold enough to be able to do without the Triumph header. Can you tell me how the heater hoses are connected? Are they in parallel with the Webber heated manifold, or in series. Where does the header fit in ("T"in) - it is not a through flow type (i.e. only one connection).
You'll no doubt be pleased to hear that appart from no foot brake, ratsnest wiring, partial trim, no paint and unfitted doors - ELX 628 C is ready for the road!!!! The thing is - my Velocette is being rebuilt in a heated garage, so the Rochdale stands no chance until the weather picks up.

Robert, Lucky escape!!
You should be able to remove / fit the door glass with the door in place, at least i can in mine. One thing to be aware of is that the Lh. & Rh. door glasses are different widths front to rear, so get the right one to save yourself some grief. The difference is around 6mm.
My car has a Ford back axle so I can't help you there.
I think Rodsmith has the same cooling set up as you, no doubt he will pop up soon to help you

You can see the hose connections here, from a previous picture I took. Like you, there is snow on the car at the moment, as my Triumph motorcycle is in the garage being rebuilt!

my doors are 'together' the perspex fits into the frame and then into the door, can you not remove the frame and do it that way?

You can remove the door glass on Olympics, but first you need to unscrew the regulator and slide if off the bottom glass runner.
When I had the door glasses remanufacture for the club we used templates from as many Olympics as we could, many were however different so we used the best of them all.
The smaller glass will fit both sides. Club spares should still have a good supply of both sides.
