Rob

Wouldn't a better idea be to replace the existing Riley 1.5 engine with an MGB 1800cc engine with overdrive gearbox? Physically the same size engine without the need to spend money on tuning stuff?

Hi All, My phase 2 with phase 1 running gear has a riley engine. I don't fancy upgrading to a stock 1800 bmc as i want to keep my car as close to the origional as possible. I have got a book on tuning the b series engine and it covers the riley models. Get in touch with me and i'll run off a few photocopies of the good bits for you.

Hi James,

first you and your engine :

second, you say that you want to keep your phase 2 as original as possible and keep the BMC.
But phase 2 wasn't motoring by a Ford pre-crossflow of Cortina GT ?

Hi All
My phase 2 ESU816 had most likely had orginally a Riley/Woseley B series engine in it as it has the Phase 1 front end and steering. Since then it has had an A series ex Marina and a Fiat 1600 t/cam. Now a Ford pre-crossflow 1500cc.
Best wishes Keith Nicholson

|For any engine ( ie old pushrod type) you could do a lot worse than buy Dave Vizards A series tuning book.

also 4 stroke performance tuning by A GRaham Bell is a good read.

the cylinder head is the place to work, you'll get free power, torque and economy by fettling it well.

Hi

The book I think James mentions is:

B. M. C. and Leyland B-series Engine Data
by Lindsay Porter
ISBN: 0850455979
Publisher: Osprey Publishing
Publication Date: October 24th, 1985

It is useful on engine specs. The tuning data may be a bit out of date if you are tuning a racing or rallying MGB these days.

You might find one on-line; I got given a copy years ago.

Best wishes
Mike
